I would like to ask for some advice on welding sequence on API storage tanks which I know is not covered in the standard. When erecting a storage tank with a crane we have typically fully welded the verticals of one shell course before welding the verticals of the course above and then the horizontals between the 2 courses to allow free movement of the shells due to heat to minimise on.

The Aboveground Steel Storage Tank Handbook discusses the myriad of regulations, codes, and manufacturing standards and shows how they are intertwined.

It is the first handbook on aboveground storage tanks that explains the unique differences between field-erected ASTs and shop-built by: FIELD-WELD TANK SPECIFICATION DRY BULK STORAGE — CARBON STEEL TANKS Page 3 of 5 Design Stress Values a.

Oil, Gas, Chemical, Water, and Bio-Fuel storage. API tanks are some of the most common welded steel tanks used in industry. Most tanks in Refineries, Terminals, Pipelines, and other process facilities use these tanks. API tanks are used for product that needs high internal pressure such as LNG tanks or Cryogenic tanks.

The purpose of the Welding Handbook for maritime welders is to provide guidance in modern welding and related processes and to provide the welder with a source of practical information on the right solution to specific onboard welding problems. Experience gained from user contact and welding training of crewmembers showed that.

X When welding is completed; flux residues and weld spatter shall be removed mechanically using stainless steel tools. X Removal of excess weld metal, if required, shall be done with a grinding wheel or belt that has not been previously used on other metals.
